This year's ____ without orphans conference was a lot more low-key than last year...less huzzah and hooplah, but what was most encouraging about the conference was that, here in the North, the group has become a unit and a movement. Children are being adopted, programs are moving forward, and the vision is significantly more global/unified than before. Unfortunately, the biggest key local leaders have moved back to Ukraine and another one of them is marrying an American and probably moving away.
Children are being adopted to local families, but corruption has popped up in most of the cases, with thousands of dollars in bribes being asked for.
My role at the conference was pretty small...I just ran powerpoint and supported the different speakers and musicians. I was given a inordinate amount of attention considering, but I guess everyone appreciated having a bilingual person who had lots of experience with projectors.
We're still hoping to get KWO South going, but I'm not really sure when or how that's happening...life has taken some unexpected turns...
