La Argentina

An Argentinian sister, Silvina came and visited us at the ranch this month. It was really inspiring watching her interact with the kids, praying for and over all of them, asking the tough questions, showing love with truth. She put me through the ringer too, and I got a couple intense counseling sessions, which was good. It was good just to have somebody to talk to.
On the weekends, I played tour guide or tagged along for her adventures. We saw some pyramids and parks and the massive anthropology museum (well, a quarter of it). On Sunday she and some of her Mexican friends invited me to go up past Toluca into the mountains. We arrived at a small cabin across from a sheep farm and proceeded to eat, explore.  Chio, the daughter of the lady who had invited us all out, eagerly asked us to sing some worship songs.  With a storm brewing in the twilight, and a fire on the hearth as our only light, Silvina's friend Claudia, who happens to be a professional singer, lead us for probably an hour before passing the guitar to me.  An older lady, a pastor prayed over all of us.  The presence of God was there.

The storm started blowing in right as we got in the van to leave.  About ten minutes into the trip, with the rain starting, the windshield wipers went out.  When cars passed us on the narrow mountain roads, we couldn't see anything.  As the rain started to come harder, we stopped the car.  Claudia began praying, directing the driver, Moises, to try turning them on again.  He tried twice, but nothing.  Thinking we had gotten water into the electrical, I was thinking we might have to wait til the rain stopped.  But Claudia spoke up again.  "Check to see if the wire is connected."  Sure enough, the wire had come loose and was completely disconnected.  Very strange.  We were able to continue on our way, making up jokes and singing national anthems all the way back to Mexico City.
