Forgot the egg in the pumpkin pie. Forgot my passport at the embassy. Forgot to plan for a class or two. Hours in the market. Hours cooking. Preparing for thanksgiving was kinda intense.
25 students. One little apartment. And ack, so many leftovers! I find it hard to believe, but I cooked enough food for 50.
It's been cool and very telling this week. I've set each of my classes loose to express their thankfulness via art. And...most of them...they say they're thankful for things because they feel like they're supposed to. And they didn't make very interesting art. We're like that I think.
So we did that little thing where we go around in a circle, what we're thankful for. And a lot of students said they were thankful for me being there. And when I first thought of doing this, I thought I should share how I'm thankful that God brought me to Kyrgyzstan. So when I heard like 10 of them say this, that was confirmation that I needed to share that story. And I did. In Russian. And I'm tired...but the words just came out. Like I finished the story and it felt like...like God had helped me, or that this was something that was supposed to happen. :)
It was also awesome watching a couple of my students really step up and help out. And just watching all of them have fun, it was lovely. :)
Hopefully I'll have some more pictures and thoughts soon. I've got three classes tomorrow I haven't planned for...so bye for now. :)
But the more I think about what I'm thankful for...it comes down to two things. God's love in my life, and you lovely people. :) So thank you for being you.
