Summer Journal, Day 9: Church, Charlie and Mafia

Six students came with me to church today, one for the first time in her life, and for a couple of the others the protestant service was a faith-stretching cross-cultural experience.  Walking back through the woods, we talked about the differences between Catholicism and Protestantism, and a little about the service.  It was cool.  I thought two of the girls were totally unimpressed and ready to leave halfway through the service, but before we left the parking lot, they made a pact to come back the next week.

Lunch was a little cold outside at Charlie Pica (Pizza) (we always eat there, because it's the only cheap restaurant within walking distance.  $2 pizzas.), but warm in terms of company and sharing.  After that I tried mostly unsuccessfully to work on the blog, and rather successfully to get our piano petition up to 100 signatures.  (there are 270 students at SLI, many of whom are not in the dorm)

It was Kristina's birthday, so I asked her what she wanted to do and she was like "games" and so we had a mafia game.  Emma had the idea to do an airplane-themed mafia, so we set up the chairs like plane aisles and had gruesome deaths involving airplane life.  (Emma had 55 hours of delay and airport time on her way here from Chicago)  It was one of the best games we've had, going down to an epic three person showdown, with one mafia player emerging victorious.

So...I don't know who I'm interviewing Tuesday for Soul Outpost.  I don't know how I'm going to present this petition tomorrow, or what exactly I'll do after SLI, or how I'll get there, and I don't know what students God's working on and which ones just like to sing, but God's blessing what we're doing, we're pointing students to God, the Word, and the Church, and I can't wait to see how this next week goes.
